                                                         Synopsis and Text of the play “Tragedy of Our Time”: This play is a dark comedy about Polish-American relations. It takes place in New York City. There are two main characters – an American retired businessman with political pretensions, John, and his Polish servant, an illegal immigrant, Jan. This is a full-length three act play. In the first act Jan has a strong desire to leave his master, John. Jan has a profound hatred for America. He wants to return to Poland and live a normal life with his family. John loves America, makes a point of being patriotic, and believes he is living in the center of the world.
