                                                         Synopsis and Text of the play “Tragedy of Our Time”: This play is a dark comedy about Polish-American relations. It takes place in New York City. There are two main characters – an American retired businessman with political pretensions, John, and his Polish servant, an illegal immigrant, Jan. This is a full-length three act play. In the first act Jan has a strong desire to leave his master, John. Jan has a profound hatred for America. He wants to return to Poland and live a normal life with his family. John loves America, makes a point of being patriotic, and believes he is living in the center of the world. John, who is gay, makes it clear he wants sexual relations with Jan, but Jan never agrees. An Arab is not seen but is heard at the door asking Jan for money for his destitut...
